Sex Therapy

Sex Therapy

Sexual health is a vital part of overall wellbeing, yet it’s often the last thing people feel comfortable seeking help for. At Transcend Psychological, our sex therapists provide a warm, confidential space where nothing is off the table.
We work with individuals and couples navigating a range of concerns including sexual dysfunction, pelvic pain, and pornography addiction. Our approach is grounded in evidence-based practice and shaped by genuine compassion — because we know that reaching out about something this personal takes courage.
Sex therapy isn’t about performance or perfection. It’s about understanding yourself more deeply, improving connection, and reclaiming a part of your life that deserves care and attention. Wherever you’re starting from, we’ll meet you there.

Physical & Functional

When the Body Says No

Sexual Pain

The mind and body are deeply connected, and emotional experiences often show up physically — especially when it comes to sex. Research shows that fear of painful sex, negative beliefs about sexuality, relationship conflict, emotional distance, or past sexual trauma can all increase the likelihood of physical pain during intercourse. Women who experience sexual pain are also more likely to struggle with insecurity, stress, depression, and anxiety, which can further compound the discomfort. Therapy is a key part of addressing sexual pain, and works best when combined with medical treatment and physical therapy.

Sexual Dysfunction

Sexual dysfunction goes well beyond erectile difficulties. Roughly 30–45% of people — across all genders — experience some form of sexual challenge that affects their ability to engage in or enjoy sex. This includes issues with desire, arousal, orgasm, and performance. While some causes are physical, the psychological contributors are significant: stress, anxiety, guilt, performance fears, insecurity, relationship difficulties, and trauma all play a role. Therapy can help identify and address what’s getting in the way.

Behaviour & Compulsion

When Sex Gets in the Way of Life

Sexual Addiction

Sex addiction is real. It involves a persistent preoccupation with sex that can lead to risky or compulsive behaviours, causing significant distress and damage to relationships. But like most addictions, it’s not really about the behaviour itself — it’s about what’s driving it. Depression, anxiety, shame, and feelings of inadequacy often sit underneath. Therapy helps address both the behaviour and the deeper vulnerabilities fuelling it.

Pornography

Pornography is now a $100 billion industry worldwide, and with that reach comes real consequences. Regular use can create unrealistic expectations about sex, bodies, and relationships — gradually eroding satisfaction with real intimacy and real partners. Therapy helps you understand the role pornography is playing in your life, develop healthier patterns, and build the awareness and skills needed to strengthen your relationships.

Identity & Orientation

Who You Are

LGBTQ+

Sexual orientation and gender identity are as unique as a fingerprint. For those who don’t fit neatly within a binary system, the journey toward self-understanding can be difficult — often marked by struggles with self-acceptance, fear of rejection, or anxiety and depression. Therapy for sexual orientation and gender identity isn’t about changing who you are. It’s about exploration, building self-awareness, and finding acceptance.

Sexual Health Education

Sex is important, complicated, and — let’s be honest — often awkward to talk about. But that’s exactly what therapy is for. Whether you have questions of your own or you’re trying to figure out how to talk to your kids about sex, the therapeutic setting is a safe, judgment-free space to get accurate information from an expert. Topics include STIs, sexual dysfunctions, LGBTQ+ issues, sex terminology, and more.
